Keep it simple.

This is a simple blog.

It is full of simple sentences, simple posts, and simple ideas.

There's a reason why.

Things don't have to be complicated to work. In fact, the simplest answer is often the best.

• Need more uninterrupted work time? Get up earlier.
• Want to be and feel healthier? Eat nutritious whole foods and work out.
• Want to grow spiritually? Read your Bible.

Don't confuse simple with easy.

The most difficult things in the world are incredibly simple.

• Love your neighbor
• Control your tongue
• Put others first

Each idea is so simple it's encapsulated in three words. But each is so hard none of us nail them perfectly.

In a world of ever increasing complexity, your answers don't have to be.

Complexity is often the lazy man’s way out. He doesn’t want to discipline himself to keep digging, to keep thinking, and to get creative.

One is about minimizing effort, while the other is about minimizing clutter.

Think hard.

Remove clutter.

Keep it simple.

Simple Not Easy

Reaching the top and achieving your wildest dreams is simple.

Figure out where you want to go, what it’ll take to get there and chart a plan to make it happen.

That’s a simple formula, but it’s not an easy one.

It requires lots and lots of hard work.

Most of all it requires discipline.

The discipline to:

  • focus over a long period of time.
  • drill down into the details.
  • reshape and reform your every habit and routine.

It takes doing your best at everything you do; reading, working out, laundry, loading the dishwasher, making good food choices, and listening to your spouse.

It’s a simple road, but the hardest one you’ll ever walk.

That’s why most people avoid it.

Hard work and discipline aren’t what they’re looking for. Most people want a quick fix and an easy win.

But your not most people. You have a drive and commitment to excellence that bewilders the common man.

You get up and get after it all day because you’re chasing down excellence like a lion on the Serengeti.

Every decision and every moment bring you closer and closer to victory.

A victory that isn't bought, or negotiated for. But one requiring character, strength, and patience.

A victory paid for in the small daily habits of a disciplined life.

Raving Fans

Ken Blanchard was famous for his concept of creating raving fans. He used to say that satisfying customers wasn’t the goal. Creating situations where they’re absolutely blown away is.

Creating those experiences isn’t as difficult as you think. It takes going that extra inch to make every encounter with you and your business remarkable. It’s being different in a way that improves how your customer feels about working with you.

You want people to walk away not only satisfied but raving about you. You want them obsessed and telling everyone about it.

Put others first. Be interested in the lives of others. Be present everywhere you are, not distracted by your phone or what’s going on around you. Look people in the eye. Smile. Care enough to listen. Say “please,” and “thank you.”

These are simple things. We can all do better at creating raving fans. Whether they’re fans of our business or fans of us personally.

Aim to leave a great impression on everyone you meet.

Do this and you’ll have a stellar reputation. Not only that, but you’ll have a life full of more love and kindness than you thought possible.
