Sought By Many, Found By Few

Change is hard. It does not come with ease. It is not awarded to the faint of heart. It is a prize sought by many; found by few.

Everyone wants to change. It’s the natural response to reflection and no time of year offers itself to reflection like the end of December. The cool weather drives you indoors and the constant warmth and cheer of the Christmas season lend themselves to considering the turning of the page from one year to another.

The desire for change comes expressed in resolutions and goals, but change is the aim. Reflection casts the gaze inward and reveals the depths of the soul, often bringing you face to face with short-comings and failures. In short, reflection brings you face to face with the dark realities that lurk within oneself.

The dark realities lurking within and the short-comings they generate constitute the ground you need to reclaim. They offer endless opportunities for growth, and though one is never free from their grasp on this side of life, they provide one the great challenge of overcoming.

The fight to overcome and reshape the failures of life makes one better. It leads you to the development of the greatest attributes. Attributes like discipline, perseverance, confidence, humility, mental strength, toughness, grit, fortitude, commitment, honesty, consistency, and relentlessness.

These things are developed only by facing the demons within. The path to strength goes through suffering.

Doing things–even small things–that make you uncomfortable will make you strong. The more often you get uncomfortable the stronger you’ll become.
— David Goggins

Pain is temporary. Discomfort but a blip in the radar. Welcome them both with open arms. They mean you’re taking ground, and moving in the right direction. In short, the pain means you’re getting closer to the change you seek.

Change remains hard and pains the standard along the way. Once you accept that anything you want can be found on the other side of not only hard work, but often discomfort.

That’s why change is the prize all seek, but few finds.

Fall in love with the process of changing yourself and possibilities remain endless.
